Ben Stiller Hears Voices

Ben Stiller is a comedy God to most. He also occasionally steers into darker waters than family-friendly fare like Night at the Museum and its sequel. Slash Film have it that he’s circling like a shark around a weird dark comedy entitled Voices, to be directed by former Wolfman helmer, Mark Romanek. The story centres on a man named Jerry Hickfang (nice surname) who kills a fellow worker (by accident) and gets help from his cat and dog…who talk to him. Sounds a little “Son of Sam” to me. The script is by Paranormal Activity 2 scribe Michael R Perry.

There’s been a lot of heat around this script and maybe Stiller’s had enough of playing it safe for a bit. Next up for him is Noah Baumbach’scomedy , Greenberg. As for Romanek, he was in my neck of the woods last summer filming at Chiswick Town Hall with Keira Knightley for an adaptation of Kazuko Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go. Romanek was hired by Universal to direct The Wolfman before “creative differences” forced him to walk away. The former music video man is plotting that Voices is his very next film. Whether Stiller climbs aboard remains to be seen. I’d rather see a Zoolander sequel, though. By: Martyn Conterio
